Science Lab: Potatoes Sprouting Investigation

Students in Teacher Nicholas’s EP M2 Science class applied the scientific method through a hands-on potato sprouting investigation. Students cut potatoes in half and placed one half in a transparent bag exposed to light, while the other half was kept in a dark environment to investigate how light affects the sprouting of potato eyes. Throughout the experiment, students identified the independent, dependent, and controlled variables, made observations, drew inferences, and recorded changes in sprout growth. They then analyzed their results and developed evidence-based conclusions about the effect of light on potato sprouting. This inquiry-based activity strengthened students' understanding of experimental design while developing essential scientific skills in observation, data analysis, and critical thinking.
