Iodine Clock experiment

Students in Teacher James’ EP-M.2 class carried out the classic Iodine Clock experiment to investigate how the rate of a chemical reaction can be changed. In this fascinating activity, a clear solution suddenly transformed into a deep blue color, almost as if by magic. Students first tested a control reaction, then compared it with reactants kept cold (slower rate) and more concentrated solutions (faster rate). Before beginning, they predicted how each condition would affect the reaction time, then measured and recorded the actual times to compare with their guesses. Back in the classroom, the class analyzed their results and examined the chemical equations behind the reaction, gaining a deeper understanding of how temperature and concentration influence reaction rates.
