How to measure your heart rate

EP-M.1 students in Teacher Darlene’s Science class learned how to measure their heart rate to better understand how the circulatory system works. They first measured their resting heart rate, then repeated the measurement immediately after exercise, and again during recovery. The results were recorded and plotted on a graph in beats per minute, allowing students to observe clear trends in how the heart responds to physical activity. Alongside the practical work, students learned how the circulatory system maintains homeostasis by transporting oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to cells while removing carbon dioxide and other waste products. This activity gave students a meaningful connection between data collection, body function, and the importance of circulation for health.
